THREE of SWORDS

Three of Swords

The Three of Swords represent heartache and sorrow that affects the mind as well as the heart. Deep sadness and emotional turmoil may be overwhelming you, causing tears to flow and feeling's of raw psychological pain.

The number three is often regarded as a sacred number symbolising religious trinities such as the triple faced goddess depicting the maiden, the mother and the crone. It also represents past, present and future, and mind, body and spirit. It indicates creativity, growth and success.

When the Three of Swords appears, it can suggest a break-up of a relationship and the pain that it brings. The three swords piercing the heart can indicate a third person may be involved and you're feeling betrayed by a loved one. You may be going through the stages of grief after an agonising separation, which was perhaps not your own doing.

The sword represents the element of Air and symbolises truth and justice, so you may have discovered a painful truth that has been hidden from you, like in the Two of Swords. Harsh words may be exchanged, and sensitive hearts may take longer to heal from their wounds. Jealousy and envy can also be indicated. This could point to a close friendship or family bond.

Although this card denotes heartbreak and inner conflict, it often suggests enlightenment may follow, bringing wisdom and future success. There is a lesson to be learned here. You may find it in your heart to offer forgiveness and reconcile your relationship, or it may be irreparable, and now's the time to heal yourself and move on.

Whatever the outcome is, the Three of Swords is an open wound that causes deep emotional and mental pain. It's the kind of pain that must not be ignored or buried. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and to feel it deeply. Learn the lessons from your experience. Healing and acceptance will follow, and you will be wiser for it.
