FOUR of PENTACLES

Four of Pentacles

The Four of Pentacles represents holding on to money or material possessions.  It can indicate a need to save money and cut back on excess spending, or you could see yourself in financial trouble.

The number four is an earthly stable number. It represents stability, security, logic and authority. The fours also represent structure and self-discipline. However, it can be rigid, making it dull and boring for some.

When the Four of Pentacles appear, it may be telling you one of two things. Either watch your spending habits and rein it in a little or loosen up and beware of greed or selfishness.

It could indicate that a period of financial security is on its way to you, and you're able to save money and make some lasting improvements to your circumstances. You may finally be in a position to build a solid foundation and sustain financial stability. On the other hand, it could suggest that you're holding on too tight to something.

Pentacles symbolise material possessions. However, this card can also represent holding on to a particular emotion or thought process.

Reversed

Is there something in your life that you need to let go of? It could be outdated beliefs or values, bad habits, a relationship that serves you no purpose or an idea that offers no prosperity. Are you holding on to an unfulfilled job because you are fearful of financial responsibilities and burdens?

This card can also indicate snobbery or someone obsessed with material wealth—one who puts it above everything else. When we place money and possessions over kindness, compassion and matters of the heart, we jeopardise any real chance of happiness.

It could be that you're anxious about money and feel burdened with trying to find ways to budget your finances.

Often, when the Four of Pentacles show up, the surrounding cards will add clarity to the reading.
